Bridget Walton
Bridget Walton earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Broadcast Journalism from Sam Houston State University in August of 1984. Immediately after she graduated from Sam Houston State University, she was hired as a Television Production Assistant at KTRE-TV Channel 7, a small-market television station in Lufkin, Texas. Ms. Walton was hired to write local commercials, station promotions, and public-service announcements. She also assisted with camera operations in the field and studio.
In 1992, she was hired as an Audio Visual Technician at Region 20, the Education Support Center in San Antonio, Texas. Ms. Walton was responsible for recording and duplicating all video, film, and audio-cassette content that students used in San Antonio I.S.D. and adjacent school districts and counties. One of her most memorable assignments at the Region 20 was Project Smart, a Texas summer math migrant program created by the Texas Education Agency in collaboration with the Education Service Center. Her role was to duplicate hundreds of tapes, which contained classroom lessons for these students to view.
Ms. Walton accepted a teaching position at La Marque I.S.D. in 2000. In 2001, she was hired as a Language Arts Teacher at Dickinson I.S.D. In 2005, Ms. Walton was hired by College of the Mainland as a Reading and Writing Tutor for the Developmental Education Department. In 2008, she enrolled at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. In 2010, she earned a Master of Arts Degree in Literature. In 2012, Ms. Walton was hired as an Assistant Professor of English at College of the Mainland.
Ms. Walton received tenure in the spring of 2017 and became an Associate Professor of English.
Teaching Philosophy:
“People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” For me, my teaching skills must go beyond the college classroom to those in the community.
